How to start today

A specific, five-step way to start a one-minute habit today: pick the action, set the timer, log it honestly, allow a skip day, and find one person who will notice.

What it is

Starting is the part most people get wrong, because they start with the intention instead of the action. This is the sequence that One Minute Magic is built around.

How to do it

1. Name one action, not a goal.
"One minute of reading" — not "read more".
2. Run the 60-second timer.
Today. Not Monday.
3. Log it honestly, with proof if you can.
The record is the point.
4. Declare a skip day when you need one.
A declared skip day is not a break in the habit.
5. Tell one person.
Someone who will notice whether today happened.

The mistake that breaks it

The usual mistake is picking a goal instead of an action — "get fit", "study more". A goal cannot be done in a minute, so there is no version of it you can complete today, and the habit has nothing to repeat.

What to do instead

Shrink it until it fits in sixty seconds. If it cannot be done in a minute, it is too big to be the habit.
